About the Program

The SASA College of Industrial Design (SCiD) was established to bridge the gap between academic training and employability. Accredited by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) and the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), the college offers an advanced certificate program that equips students with skills in industrial and product design.

Program Overview

Industrial Design involves designing products for mass production, ensuring both aesthetics and functionality. It integrates creativity with manufacturing techniques and aligns with global design standards.

Entry Requirements & Format

  • A Bachelor's degree in a design-related field (e.g., Architecture, Environmental Design, Fine Arts, Industrial Design).
  • Weekend residential format (Friday–Sunday) for six months (March–August 2023).
  • Graduates of this certificate program are eligible for a Diploma in Industrial Design.

Core Modules

1. Material Application in Industrial Product Design

Objectives:
  • Understand factors influencing product design and materials.
  • Experiment with materials for sustainability and usability.

  • Evaluate product usability in ergonomics and interfaces.

2. Product Trend Research

Objectives:
  • Understand human-centered innovation and design trends.
  • Analyze evolving societal needs and values.

  • Conduct trend research for innovative design.
  • Create future-proof products aligned with emerging needs.

3. Product Design Management

Objectives:
  • Develop strong product teams and design processes.
  • Apply ideation, prototyping, and planning techniques.
Expected Outcomes:
  • Prepare a product execution plan.
  • Handle planning, prototyping, and market entry strategies.

4. Visual Presentation Techniques

Objectives:
  • Master design communication techniques.
  • Learn sketching, color balance, and visual storytelling.
Expected Outcomes:
  • Prepare professional visual presentations for clients and investors.
  • Create effective design reports and marketing visuals.

Assessment Strategies

Continuous Assessment (50–70%)

Assignments, practical sessions, presentations, and project work throughout the program.

Practical Exams (30–50%)

Hands-on tasks, case studies, critiques, and final project presentations.
